Back-To-School Night

Almost NO ONE showed up to the library for back-to-school night last night. I mean, I know that there were no exciting activities up here or anything, but seriously! The library is a really popular place. How come no one wanted to show it off? What should I DO people? What would get people up here next time? Give me advice!

Babysitting

Last night I babysat my niece Eloise (you may have seen her picture on my office door). We read five books together. Well, sort of. I think we got all the way through one book. She "read" two of them to me, making up words that go with the pictures with surprising accuracy. Sometimes she even knew the exact words on the page, even though she can't read yet. (She's 3, btw.) I guess that's from memorizing the story after reading the books over and over and over. Two of the books were interrupted by her foot. She liked to put her foot over the words or the characters faces and stop me from turned the page. Then she would crack up laughing. It was great.

The books we read were The Little Engine that Could, Rotten Ralph, Knuffle Bunny, Where the Wild Things Are, and George and Martha.

I'm Giving Up!

I admit it, I'm giving up on The Book Thief. Don't get me wrong, it's a really, really good book. I'm just not in the mood AT ALL for a sad story about Nazi Germany. Maybe it won't be too sad in the end, but I can't imagine how. I am in the mood for something light, fun, exciting, fast-paced. I could use a good Meg Cabot book right now, or maybe a mystery novel. Any suggestions????????

This is how I feel.

Harry Potter movie

Last night, I saw the newest Harry Potter movie. Up until the end, I think it was my favorite of all the Harry Potter movies. The end was a real disappointment though, but probably only to the people who read the book. A big, cool fight scene was completely left out! I mean, in the book, Ron, Hermione, Neville, and all the kids get to fight the Death Eaters and really test their skills. I don't understand why such an exciting scene would be eliminated. What a bummer!

Other than that, I loved every minute of it. The classrooms at Hogwarts are so cool, and the character Horace Slughorn was really funny. Not to mention the fact that the cave with the horcrux and the zombies was exactly as I had imagined it. I highly recommend it.

The Book I'm Reading

Right now, I am reading a book that is really, really challenging for me. It's called The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It's about a girl who lives with foster parents in Nazi Germany, and I am pretty sure that some baaaaad things are going to happen. The book is very good, and I'm enjoying it, but it's not an easy read.
